113. Rear window re-installation
112. Rear window glass assembly 2
In the fall of 2020, I refurbished around the rear window to coincide with the replacement of all the soft top, but the upper weather strip gradually dropped and began to protrude from the upper cover that covered it, so a year later, I replaced the rubber band part of the belt that holds up the glass frame with a commercially available one, and slightly raised the part that holds the base of the hood, but the hood shrank, and the protrusion became unfortunate, so I decided to make it again.
Perhaps foreseeing this situation, I kept the original hood set that was replaced at the time, so I still had the hood fabric and other necessary parts. So, I cut out the part where the rear window glass is attached from the upper hood, and using photos from that time as a reference, I transplanted the disassembled parts, zippers, weather strips, edging tape, glass and frame to regenerate it.
The car is now complete with the glass in place. The top of the glass frame fits perfectly into the shape of the fabric that covers it.
The glass and frame will be removed from the frame to use the previous one. From inside the car, press the rubber frame inward with your fingers so that it will drop into the frame.
On the left is the previous one, and on the right is the one we created this time. You can see that the distance from the top has become shorter because the weather strip and glass frame have been moved upwards.
After both sides have dried enough that they no longer stick to your hands, align them and use a roller to press them together. I made cuts in the four corners to make them fit the R-shape.
Apply rubber adhesive to both the frame and the fabric. I had some leftover Honda-specified Penguin Cement 334C, but it had hardened and was unusable, so I used Konishi Bond G17, which has the same ingredients.
Decide where to attach the glass, draw a guide line, cut out the fabric for the area where the glass will be attached, and check it again from the front side. Adjust it a little higher than where you cut it off and cut the excess off again.
The finished fabric for the glass mounting surface is then joined to the outer frame, the bottom is aligned, and the border is finished with tape.
The rivets that secure the belt to the zipper slider had the rust removed and were painted matte black along with the slider.
After sewing the parts together, I cleaned the frame for attaching the glass and this time painted the white fabric on the back black as well.
Take fabric from the top of the soft top and cut out the rear part shape. The mold is longer in the vertical direction than the previous one.
Except for the fabric that holds the window glass, we will reuse the fasteners, weather stripping, edging tape, strips that hold the core material, and the outer sheeting.
