115. Vehicle inspection 2025
Entry:2025.09.14 / Work:2025.09.08
The only changes I made since last time were adding LED tubes to the outer periphery of the headlights to turn them into daytime running lights, and replacing the wheels and tires. Since the ground clearance requirement was met, the only things that might be subject to inspection were the headlights with daytime running lights and the ghost film on both windows. Over time, the transmittance may have decreased and fallen below the required value, potentially requiring removal. With that in mind, I prepared to remove the film and brought the original headlights with me, and headed for the inspection...
The results showed that the headlights with daytime running lights, Recaro seats, ground clearance, exhaust noise from the muffler, and the visible light transmittance of the ghost film on each of the four windows were all fine. The rear under-brake light, which had been fine last time, was rejected and had to be removed.
What I hadn't considered was wheel overhang. Apparently, the wheel needs to be within the fender within a 30-degree range forward and 50-degree range backward from a line drawn directly above the center of the wheel. The examiner brought a large protractor and measured it, but the wheel overhanging the front end meant I failed. (T_T)
I headed home contemplating putting back the wheels and tires I had replaced last time, but on the way home I decided that since I had gone to the trouble of buying new wheels and tires, I wanted to somehow keep. It then occurred to me that if I installed something like overfenders, it might pass the check.
On the way home, an idea suddenly came to me. First, I used some black Kent paper I had on hand to shape it several times, and finally, I cut up some leftover PP craft sheeting from a mudguard I had made previously and stuck it down so that only the front end extended to the side of the fender. I took it for re-inspection, and it passed.
