40. Replace exhaust pipe gasket

When I had my vehicle inspected and serviced, the mechanic told me that the exhaust pipe was leaking from the connection and was rusting. So I decided to replace it myself and ordered a gasket.

The rust had spread downwards in the affected area, so I removed the exhaust pipe, removed the rust from both joint surfaces, applied rust preventive, replaced the gasket, and reassembled it.

A nut with a shape I've never seen before. Is this a lock nut?

Remove rust from the exhaust pipe side and, apply rust preventive.

Remove the rust, apply rust preventive , and set the gasket.

The outside and inside of the ring are metal, and what is the layer in between?

Silencer side. With this packing shape, I think water will seep out again.

It looks like it's not only rusty, but also corroded.
