161. Power steering install 2
Again I imported a power steering kit from a shop in England and helped a friend install it on his early-late BUS.
It seems that the specification has changed. In the model at that time, the vehicle speed was obtained by inserting a cable for picking up the vehicle speed between the vehicle speed cable and the meter. The model that arrived this time just connects the GPS unit to the controller.
Draw the power line from under the floor into the engine room through the other wiring hole, and connect it to the battery via the attached fuse.
While looking at other wiring paths, pass the power wire from front to back under the floor and bring it to the battery in the engine room.
Since there is no cover under the steering gearbox, fill the gap between the floor and the base with caulking material.
Return the parts around the shaft to their original state.
Connect and fix the lower part of the power steering shaft and the shaft of the gearbox.
Secure the control unit to the top of the plate that supports the steering column. However, the speedometer cable hit it, so I fixed it to the underside of the plate.
Since the upper part of the original outer pipe is used, cut it with a pipe cutter.
This is the power steering unit. We will install the motor later.
Looking from under the floor, remove the bolts and nuts to separate the shaft from the steering gearbox.
Remove the C-ring and rubber collar on the top of the shaft and remove the steering column.
Remove the plate that holds the steering column.
Next, remove the meter to make it easier to work. It's hard to remove the early late BUS's blue & red lever!
If you pull the puller claw as it is, the resin part around the bottom will crack.
Start by removing the steering wheel. If you have never removed it, it is stuck and cannot be easily removed.
Put it in the back of the parking lot and start working.
